Yep, another Tow Mater replica - after all, can you ever really have enough of Mater?  No Way!!!

This time we are starting with a 1-ton 56 GMC truck...

It came as a "cab & chassis" so the first step of shortening the frame a couple of feet was easy.  Next the front end components not needed were removed...

Next comes the bed frame and the winch (which is strong enough to pull a house)....

Now the roofline gets exaggerated and headache rack welded in...

Tow bed is finished!  Check out the 12" hook - very cartoonish.

Decided that the old 261 6-cylinder and 3-speed manual trans wasn't up to driving in parades, so out they came and in went a small block chevy 350 and 350 automatic trans...  Now Mater can do burnouts!!!  But - nobody has actually seen Mater's engine, and to keep it safe and sound, a custom "hood" was built to cover the engine and give Mater a cartoonish looking engine...

Now onto the most difficult part of this build - the face.  First the headlights were reshaped, then starting with a black sheet of metal, his mouth is slowly carved and formed...

 After a little body work, and a lot of paint, Tow Mater #3 is ready for his movie premiere - right in time for the release of Cars 3!!!
